Pre-Activity:  Homework to uncover local science conferences.


Do Now:  Write your conference you found on the board (or publish it to the common web site).


Aim:  All science is local.


Major Assignment:  Share research on conferences, producers, presenters and topics.


Processes, Skills, Goals:  Research and presentation skills.  


Content:  Science as Communication of Evidence and Theories


Instructions:  Students discuss what they found about conferences and who produces them.  Usually same groups as publish journals.


Materials:  Professional society handouts, copies of local conference programs,


Guiding Questions:  Who is presenting?  What story are they telling?  Who is running the event?  Who is attending?  What is a professional association and its role in society.


Homework:  Choose a local water feature and find conference or association materials that describe the science research or management policy occurring there.  (or: Research local waters, conferences or associations that study them, make a decision about which one you want to work on, including the specific topic that interests you, and its pertinence to seals.)
