Major Assignment:  Learn how to discuss digital maps that tell a story.


Processes, Skills, Goals:  Discussion of fundamentals of observation using interactive digital air photos, creative choices of one's perception of reality to tell a focused story, using images to support text in an essay, geographical analysis using a hierarchical approach, creating digital map data to tell a story.


Content:  Geographical Data Editing


Instructions:  Explain GE Lab Part 2 and ask students to follow its instructions.  Keep them on task to complete the assignment.  The key issue is anyone can create and share geographic data to tell a story.  Assist them in creating data using the GE tools.  Guide them with suggestions of story themes that seals might want told.


Materials:  Computers with online access and GE installed, GE Lab Part 2 assignment, slide show of how to use GE to create data.


Guiding Questions:  What are the most important places in your neighborhood to you? ... to a seal?  What story would you like to tell about seals and your neighborhood?  What are your informal names for those point places?  How might they affect the direction that a seal swims and how fast they go after they are released?  What major things are important to outline with a polygon shape to tell that story?


Homework:  Complete captions and a few more paragraph to tell a story about your neighborhood and seals.
