Aim:  Share the joy of accomplishment using a new skill.


Major Assignment:  Learn how to create geographic data to tell a story.


Processes, Skills, Goals:  Discussion of fundamentals of creating data using interactive digital air photos, creative choices of one's perception of reality to tell a focused story, using personal geographical data choices to support text in an essay, geographical analysis using a hierarchical approach, creating digital map data to tell a story, linking conditions in one's neighborhood to a local marine mammal habitat.


Content:  Geographical Data Editing for Publication


Instructions:  Review student results from GE Lab Part 2 and discuss options for publication of the stories.  Options include: grade book, personal web pages, agency web sites, other agency outreach, in-school options, peer-review publication, direct communication, scholarships, science fairs, group publication, et al.


Materials:  Method of showing student materials, notes on publication options, 


Guiding Questions:  What are the most important places in your neighborhood to you? ... to a seal?  What story would you like to tell about seals and your neighborhood?  Who else might be interested in your interpretation of the situation?  How might they find it?  What career benefit can you foresee from this work?  What benefits can't you foresee?


Homework:  Choose and justify a publication option for yourself.
