Pre-Activity:  GE Data Labs and Discussion of Publication Options


Do Now:  Prepare to discuss your choices and justifications.


Aim:  Expand benefits of accomplishment by sharing it with others.


Major Assignment:  Learn how to share geographic stories.


Processes, Skills, Goals:  Discussion of benefits of sharing one's accomplishments in science, linking conditions in one's neighborhood to a local marine mammal habitat, or broader environmental issue.


Content:  Publishing Group Science Projects


Instructions:  Introduce and discuss opportunity to assemble class work into coherent whole for publication, Options include: grade book, NYSMEA, NCGE, NYSDEC, ESRI, GK-12, NSF, NYS Science, CUNY Science Fair, NSTA, ASPRS, GC, CB, et Al.


Materials:  Notes on publication options. 


Guiding Questions:  What audience best matches the story we are telling?  Which audience provides the best personal benefits at least cost or risk?  What are the benefits, costs and risks?


Homework:  Research other published articles in that option, perhaps by doling out work from them sequentially in time to the alphabetical class list.
