Activity:  NOWCOAST Lab

Pre-Activity:  Stream Gauge Lab.

Do Now:  Prepare for NOWCOAST Lab.

Aim:  To find and analyze results from remote sensing tools.

Major Assignment:  Find water buoys, obtain observations, analyze them and report findings.

Processes, Skills, Goals:  Using interactive map interfaces to obtain science measurements, analyze and report on them.  Continue to learn limits and capabilities of specific technologies.  Examine the current conditions at a location and relate them to coincident remote sensing data.

Content:  NOWCOAST Lab

Instructions:  Remind students that they are learning sources of maps and images to tell their essay stories.  Explain water buoys as simple remote sensing devices, encourage students to stay on task to complete assignment, then go on to explore.  Relate findings back to Water and Stream Gauge Lab.

Materials:  Computers with online access and GE installed.  Water Buoy Lab.

Guiding Questions:  How much time and energy did you save by not having to travel to the water buoy site?  How current is the data?  Could you have gathered synchronous data simultaneously?  What if there is a storm?  Cold?  Hot?  Crisis?

Homework:   Complete lab and anticipate exam.
