Activity:  Introduction to Satellite Mapping Science

Pre-Activity:  Remote Sensing Basics.

Do Now:  Read list of NASA satellites.

Aim:  To learn about satellite remote sensing tools.

Major Assignment:  Note-taking on satellite remote sensing.

Processes, Skills, Goals:  Extend basic introduction to the breadth and depth of the science of international satellite remote sensing science.

Content:  International Remote Sensing Science

Instructions:  Provide students with lists, posters, and brochures on international satellite remote sensing science.  Ask them to pick their three favorites for further exploration and explain their interest.

Materials:  International satellite remote sensing lists, brochures, posters, etc.  Slide show of examples.

Guiding Questions:  Which satellites would a seal want to access?  Why?  Which ones most interest you?  Why?  What are they doing to enhance human senses?  Who do you think is using them?  For what?  How might they end up in an average citizen's daily life?

Homework:   Imagine a future remote sensing device a seal might want and tell a story about it.
