Roots is a project
for a major financial institution being developed by the NYC based media
company, Unified Field, with the assistance of the New Media Lab. NML graduate
researcher, Lee Ann Pomplas-Bruening, has animated the 3-D visualization of the
United States stock markets created by Unified Field to be used as part of a multimedia installation for
the institution's training headquarters. As a visual representation of trading
patterns, activity and volatility within the stock market, the model allows for
the simultaneous display of large quantities of data with multiple levels of
detail in a clear, simple fashion. The animation of the model illustrates
trading fluctuations in industries, sectors, and the stock market as a whole,
changes in the economy as they are reflected in market activity over time, and
the relationship between volatility and trading volumes. |
