Vernon is currently working on the American Social History Project's Young America project. For this project he is looking into the activities and behaviors of youths during the 1950's. He is primarily interested in the role both elementary and secondary school students played in helping to desegregate public high schools not only in Southern schools but across the entire nation. Of particular interest is the student strike, which took place in Farmville, Virginia during the spring of 1951. Vernon believes that integrating new media technology into history classroom instruction will not only familiarize students with the various types of resources available to them, but will also widen the depth and breadth of their knowledge. While he is originally from Northern California, he is currently a proud resident of Manhattan's Spanish Harlem.
