Rebecca Simson

Graduate Student Researcher
Durst Research Scholar
Fall 2000 - Summer 2003
I am in my fourth year in the Ph.D. Program in the history department at the Graduate Center, specializing in modern European history with a particular focus on Nineteenth Century French Jewish history. I am interested in exploring the relationship between concepts of citizenship and cultural identity in late nineteenth and early twentieth century France. Before coming to the Graduate Center I worked in various non-profit organizations after graduating from Brandeis University in 1995. My work as a Durst Scholar at the New Media Lab, while not being directly related to my academic expertise, has been fascinating. Having the opportunity to explore the rich and varied history of New York City and presenting it to the public through our website, Virtual New York, has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of my academic career so far.
