The Context

The unmatchable precision and aesthetic beauty of Marc Ferrez photographic compositions bring, as bonus to the exhibit's subtle narrative line, themes that contributed to the great transformations the city was about to experience: the natural vigor of the interior of the São Paulo state represented, almost alegorically, by the waterfalls of Itú and Piracicaba; the coffee fazenda and its slaves (alluding to questions related to the immigration of European workers); the period's scientific and tecnological development simbolized by the observatory; and transportation, from railroads (by Militão) to the Santos harbor.
